Understanding the distribution of clean water in high-rise buildings

In layman's terms, can explain the clean water distribution system in high-rise buildings such as apartments, hotels or offices. The order is as follows :

  1. Clean water from PDAM enters the building area through the main meter, which is usually located in the front area of the building. Where there is also a valve to regulate the opening and closing of the water supply into the building area.
  2. From the main water meter, water is distributed through pipes to a water reservoir called GWT (Ground Water Tank) which is usually located in the basement of the building, as the main reservoir for clean water. There is also a water reservoir for groundwater called RWT (Raw Water Tank), which will function to send water upwards, if the PDAM supply is interrupted.
  3. From the reservoir, water is transferred using a pump, which is called a Transfer Pump (TP) to each tower. The TP is usually located in the Pump Room which is ideally located parallel to the GWT. The building standard is 2 (two) TP units for 1 tower that work automatically and alternately.
  4. From the TP, it is accommodated back in the RWT (Roof Water Tank) which is located on the Roof Top.
  5. After RWT or commonly called Toren, then clean water is flowed to every floor of the building, of course by regulating the water pressure through PRV (Pressure Reducer Valve).
  6. For the top 3 floors of the building, water is pumped through a Booster Pump and a Gate Valve is installed on each floor, then it is distributed to units through the unit's water meter.
  7. For under the top 3 floors up to the bottom floor, water is drained by gravity and PRV is installed on several floors below it. PRV functions to regulate the pressure of the water it passes through, so that clean water passing through the unit meters can reach units with normal water pressure.

  8. This is a brief explanation of the distribution of clean water in high-rise buildings.
